Navigating the Preschool, Elementary & High School Admissions Process

Expert Private School Guidance

MAKING CHOICES

Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Whether you are applying to preschool, elementary, middle or upper school, determining which school will suit your child and family’s values requires careful thought and reflection.  Moreover, every school has a unique personality and admissions protocol, that  takes  time to sort out.  I have found, however, that with the right support, the process of finding  a school can be one of the most exciting and eye-opening experiences you and your child will ever have.

ADMISSIONS

While Assistant Director of Admissions at Crossroads School in Santa Monica for sixteen years (1998-2014), I interviewed and counseled thousands of parents and students applying for Kindergarten through 12th grade. My primary goal was always to find the right match for the school and family.  Integrity and compassion have consistently guided my interactions with parents and admissions directors throughout the country, who highly value my professional opinion.

THE JOURNEY

You may begin the admissions journey unsure of how your child learns best, your educational philosophy, or what your family wants from a school community. I get to know all of you and help filter out the “buzz” and often unreliable information you may hear about schools. After our first consultations, you will feel confident that you have the tools necessary to complete the placement process successfully.  Although no one can guarantee acceptance to any school, I can offer the advantage of my skill and wisdom.

RELOCATION AND LAST MINUTE PLACEMENT

Relocating your family to another city is, to say the least, a Herculean task. Even when you have what you think is accurate information from family, friends, your real estate broker, or Google, you can be misled.

I have known a number of people who purchased or leased homes thinking they were in a good public school district only to find out that wasn’t the case. Then they had to look for a private school at the last minute. How can you know which private (independent) school is right for your child and family when you have never lived in the area?

One of my specialties is helping smooth the way. If you are relocating to Los Angeles or need to find a school at the last minute, I make it happen. I have helped families relocating from many countries and throughout the United States to find the right school placement.

Some excellent independent schools take late applications and others keep a few spots open specifically for families moving into the area. I know those schools and those admission directors. I also understand the public school landscape, which can be choices for families when they first arrive in Los Angeles.

You are not alone in this big transition. I am your support, advocate and advisor.

TEACHER AND AUTHOR

I came to admissions with over ten years of teaching experience (grades 7-12), so I understand how teachers think and students feel in the classroom. I am also a parent who has seen her daughter through  private school admissions at every level. I know first hand the importance of finding a school with a curriculum and culture that resonates not only for the student but the whole family as well.

As the author of The Seven Common Sins of Parenting an Only Child, I have advised parents and educators throughout the country.  My knowledge gives  you the advantage of having the most informed and up -to-date guidance available.
