TESTIMONIALS
We called the A-List last year when my daughter was struggling with Algebra II/Trig Honors. Her grades were inconsistent: on one test, she’d receive a 97% and on another, she’d get 65%. The A-List answered my call immediately and found someone whose schedule worked perfectly with ours. The minute he walked in our door, he was like family. He was young and energetic, and related very well with my daughter right off the bat. After the first few sessions, he determined that her problems stemmed from “holes” that she had in some of her basic Algebra skills. Each session, he drilled her for ten minutes on review material, after which they would focus on what she was doing presently in class. This method worked fabulously, and soon, her grades were consistently high. More importantly though, she was much more confident while taking her tests. Our A-List tutor still works with our daughter and he’s been a tremendous asset and a great friend.
We began meeting with our A-List tutor when my eighth grade son’s organizational skills became unbearably bad. He was forgetting his homework, losing his planner and there were papers all over his room all of the time. My wife and I were sick of fighting with him about this. Our A-List tutor came in and determined what needed to be done at school and at home to facilitate my son’s organizational needs. She developed a great system for him to remember to bring the appropriate materials and homework to school, while teaching him (in a fun way) the value of being organized and keeping it all together. She also developed some very cool methods to help him plan ahead and anticipate important assignments and due dates. These skills have carried him through ninth grade and we still see our A-List tutor regularly for study skills “check ups.”
Biology was my son’s worst nightmare. He did very well in Physics, but for some reason, he couldn’t get a hold on biology. His A-List tutor came in and “translated” the material in a way that he could understand it. She taught him how to break down his class notes and readings into study guides that presented the material in his own words. She also realized that he was a very visual learner, so she taught him how to use charts and other techniques to help him remember and understand the material more efficiently. Since she has come into our life, she has eliminated so much stress for our son and for us. We’re definitely keeping her on for chemistry next year!
My daughter is in sixth grade, and while I initially felt like she was too young to start tutoring, I was panicked because she was having such a difficult time with Spanish and with math. My math skills are terrible and I don’t speak Spanish, so I really felt frustrated, and as a parent, there’s nothing worse than feeling like you can’t help your child. My A-List tutor was able to cover BOTH the Spanish and the math, which I thought was incredible. She realized that my daughter’s issues in both subjects had to do with mastering some of the basics. She spent the time helping my daughter get a handle on her multiplication tables as well as some of her basic verb conjugations. Having our A-List tutor’s consistent help taught my daughter the value of practicing her math and Spanish on a regular basis. The routine with our tutor was such a blessing and now I know that when our daughter starts middle school that she’ll really be prepared in these “trouble” subjects.
